Adam Equipment Weathers the Storm

Power outage only residual effect of Hurricane Irene for Adam

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 -- Danbury, Conn. -- Operations are back to normal at Adam Equipment's U.S. office following the weekend onslaught of Hurricane Irene. Employees were greeted Monday morning with a power outage, but no flooding or other damage.

Electricity was restored around noon on Tuesday, according to Tom Storey, Adam spokesman.

"We're back to business as usual," Storey added. "It was a minor inconvenience for a little while but we managed to turn things around pretty quickly."

The hurricane, eventually downgraded to a tropical storm, pounded the East Coast of the United States starting late last week and hit the New England area on Sunday. Many residents in the path of the storm followed mandatory evacuation orders put in place by local and state authorities.Widespread flooding and power outages reigned, and roads and bridges were overtaken by flood waters.

Utilities along the East Coast reported Tuesday afternoon that about three million customers remained in the dark, down from a peak of more than eight million. Repair crews continue to deal with uprooted trees and floodwaters in 13 states that were ravaged by the hurricane over the weekend. The storm ripped out power lines, flooded electrical substations and crushed critical circuits that bring power to thousands of people. Irene led to the deaths of at least 38 people in 11 states.

"We were fortunate that we didn't incur any flooding or damage at our facility," Storey added. "And nobody was injured here, so we're counting our blessings. Many people weren't as lucky."
